So, I hear that Quvenzhané Wallis is going to be in a remake of Annie.
I, for one, am appalled. Appalled, I tell you!
To start with, have you seen the original movie? I have. Horrible sugary crap. It’s been over twenty years since I’ve seen it, and I still can’t visit my dentist without getting glared at. I didn’t even know it was possible for a movie to be sugary enough to rot your teeth, but it is. But even aside from the excess of sugary sweetness, the movie was freaking terrible. How terrible? I’ll put it this way: it had Tim fucking Curry and Bernadette fucking Peters — together! — and even their combined awesomeness couldn’t made it watchable!
Ms. Wallis, in the unlikely event you’re reading this? You’re cute and talented as all hell. You are clearly destined for great things. Annie isn’t one of them. You can do better. You should do better. Once you have name recognition from Annie, you must do better. (But I kinda hope you knock Annie out of the park, but that’s because I’m a selfish bastard, and watching racists whine and flail will provide me with far more entertainment than the movie will.)
Oh, and one last thing. I don’t want to take away from the people who support Ms. Wallis, or are condemning the people who object the the casting… lemme rephrase that. I don’t want to take away from most of the people who support Ms. Wallis, or are condemning the people who object the the casting… just this one.
Oh, look. Amadi is still Soshuling Teh Justiss [misspellings intentional], and she thinks people are going to take her seriously! Isn’t that adorable? Now me ded of cute! (And when I say “ded of cute,” I mean that I’m very much alive, but projectile vomiting.)
Amadi, in the unlikely event you’re reading this? At this point, the best thing you can do for any cause you support is to say nothing about it, and thereby refrain from poisoning any support for that cause by your association. Even when you’re right, your very presence leaves a bad taste in the mouths of all who remember you, and that bad taste overpowers whatever point you’re making.
